Yesterday evening Mel hosted a small party in celebration of Ashley’s birthday, and for John coming to Korea. We had a great time there with nice food, music and loads of interesting talks. In no particular order, here are a few photos that capture the evening.
So, a happy birthday to you, Ashley. And Hiya~! to you, John. Welcome to the land of the morning calm.
I went to the hair dresser last night. After walkin around like –to quote my mom– a homeless person for far too long, I finally went to Juno, my favorite hair dresser here (their head massage is just too nice). Feeling slightly nervous about the inevitable language barrier, I went in with the assumption I was going to have to talk my way through explaining what I wanted using my hands and feet, but it worked out well enough.
Their English skills were limited at best, but that didn’t stop them from being curious. Nearly the entire staff came to say hi, ask for my age and what I was doing here in Korea, making me feel like I was some kind of celebrity. To make matters worse, the woman that did my hair ended up making a photo of us together.
Yeah.
I’ve recently been listening to Rachael Yamagata again. It’s been ages since I last did, but I stumbled upon her while randomly playing music at home and instantly fell in love again. One song in particular sounded lovely, and made me reminisce about easier times, where black was black, white was white and I had no clue about any of the shades of grey in-between.
Good times.
Gu-da has her very own spot, where Forest can’t attack her (attack in the playful kind of way, that is). She’s a climber, so no place in my apartment is safe, really. Often I find her sitting in front of the tiny window in the bathroom, even.
This new place of her she likes a lot, so she spends quite a bit of time there. And I made it a bit worse, even, by putting a blanket ‘up there’, so she can comfortably sleep. Where is this ‘up there’, you ask? Well..

I’m such a softie.
Before rigorously cleaning the bathroom, I washed Forest. I’ve been in the process of fixing his hair up after neglecting it for far too long (I’m a bad parent, bad.), but we’re almost there now. He has a few bad areas because I had to cut some pieces of hair away, but come summer he’ll look beautifully handsome again.
Oh, and he smells a lot nicer again, too. Hehe.
