Everything you want and don't want to know about living in Korea, my life, work and, well, stuff. Welcome to my world.

A Gift, and a goodbye.

PiHyo was working for Starbucks even before I joined Zenitum. As I came there often (Read: every. day.), I became friends with a few people working there, including PiHyo, Eomji (Both seen here), Becky, and a few others that later joined. It is because of their kindness that I became a regular customer, and went out of my way to go ‘all the way’ to Starbucks, instead of, say, the much closer by Tom & Toms (psuh, as if.) or, god forbid, Seven Monkeys.

What I enjoy about life is that it’s full of surprises. While some are bad –or, undesired–, most are good and often lead to new and interesting new experiences. The Butterfly Effect, so to speak. Every choice in life effects you, people around you and, indirectly, total strangers. While I’ve definitely had times where I felt better than I do right now, I do still appreciate these little randomanities that make life as special and unique as it is.

PiHyo is leaving Starbucks today, and will be leaving for a one-year trip to England, to study English. I’m sure it’ll be an amazing experience for her, and am very happy that she’s able to make this step. As she’s the last one left from the ‘original’ Starbucks crew, I will miss her, though. It’s a somewhat sad reminder that most everything changes in life, and sticking around in one place is not possible. Perhaps for the better.

I wish you all the best, PiHyo, and hope you’ll have an amazing time there in England. And, perhaps, you’ll find your very own Hugh Grant there ;-) .

PiHyo gave me this soap as a small gift.

YoungDoo & John

Posted: March 9th, 2010 | Author: Dave | Filed under: Life, Photo | 1 Comment »

John and I have been friends for many years, but never actually met in person. Until now, that is. John arrived this morning here in Korea, and will be spending about a month here with his girlfriend, my other good friend YoungDoo. I met them just now for a short bit, and I’m really glad for them, they look happy together.

Welcome to Korea, John. Hope you’ll enjoy your stay :) .

My endless love for Music..

Posted: March 3rd, 2010 | Author: Dave | Filed under: Life, Music, Photo | No Comments »

As you might know, I’ve got an ever-growing love for music. It’s the one thing that helped me get through everything so far, and without it I honest-to-god wouldn’t know how to live. I’m always trying to find something new to further let me sink into this endless ocean of musical goodness, and last week I ended up buying a new DAC/AMP on a whim, recommended by a friend. It’s the iBasso D10 Cobra. Fancy name eh?

I already have an AMP, but missed the DAC part (A Digital-to-analog converter. I tend to call it ‘a sound card’. Yeah, I’m that technical). My work PC’s sound card is painfully bad (there’s a constant ‘wheeeeeeeeee’ sound, drives me nuts), and the VAIO could use a boost too. So I figured I’d upgrade, and sell my still pretty much brand new AMP (The Little Dot MK1, in case you were wondering).

I’ll spare you with the geek talk, and instead show some photos. Still geeky, though less so.

Using my Sennheiser HD 380 Pros to listen to some, ehm, amplified tunes.

I'm using the stock cable for now, waiting for my other one to come in this week.

Using the SendStation to get Line Out, my custom-made cable is not working with this iPod (3rd generation)

It's pretty small, making it easy to bring with me to work.

Bon Iver has never sounded this amazing..

Cleaning the house — Fortunately, I had help

Posted: March 3rd, 2010 | Author: Dave | Filed under: Life, Photo | No Comments »

Last weekend I did some serious mental/house cleaning. Call it Spring Cleaning. It was a tad difficult to get myself to actually do it (I’ve been meaning to do it for months now), but fortunately enough I had some help to, ehm, clean with me. Sort of.

Happy birthday, me.

Twenty-four years old, whew.

My birthday came and went like any day. It seems like the older you get, the less obvious the day becomes. I guess in a few years I’ll be hoping the day won’t come at all, as it’s little more but a reminder of the things we have yet to do. Or something less depressing sounding.

I had fun yesterday evening though, as I could spend some time with a few friends. We had dinner at Dos Tacos in Gangnam, and after that spent some time at the nearby Paris Baguette. I got a few really nice gifts, including a tiny Spongebob pen, a Moleskine and a brand sparklin’ new Starbucks card. Now I can finally stop using that christmas card ;) .

Some photos, all made by YoungDoo.

(Left: JuSung) Beautifully timed shot, thanks a bunch, Doo..

I thought she was making a photo of the cups alone, ahem.

Happy birthday cakes :)

Spongebob sticky notes, woot!

Well, onto 25!
